I performed a daily ritual every day for 21 days. I find it interesting to work with figures both large and small, so I decided to sketch a small figure for each day. Working on achieving dynamic poses and attempting drapery, I wanted the figures to seem to be reaching up towards a radiating light. I wanted to test various colors of stains and oxides, so I painted the lower half of each figure as if they were being washed out by light. They are displayed in the order of creation.
My inspirations are the spirituality of Kiln Gods, the dynamic poses of the Gates of Hell by Auguste Rodin, and the Gates of Paradise by Florence Ghiberti and how those figures interact with a surface.
